Play

Here is where we'll share our artistic play--you know, doodling. It's a little like visual journaling. Humphrey Horse and his farm friends are featured here. Shana has been doodling them for more than a decade.

Coming in May, 2025 | Humphrey and the Hitchhiker: A Graphic Novel for Kids.

Explore

Learning more about our world is important to us. The Resource Curse, is our on-going documentary work that explores the impact of resource extraction on people and the planet.

Land Acknowledgement

Spotted Horse Studios LLC members live, work, create on and occupy the ancestral, traditional and contemporary lands of the Anishinaabek – Three Fires Confederacy, the Odawa (Ottawa), Ojibwe (Chippewa), and Bode'wadmi (Potawatomi). Spotted Horse Studios LLC recognizes historic Indigenous communities in Michigan, and those who were forcibly removed from their homelands. We further recognize the ongoing relationship of dependence upon, and respect for, all living beings of earth, sky, and water. In offering this land acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty, history, and experiences.

Art + Information

The project goal is to find ways to convey this complex and important information through art, mixed-media sources, and interactivity.

The Resource Curse | The Great Lakes

This project began in the Great Lakes region of North America, where copper, iron ore and nickel have been mined for decades. We look at water and indigenous treaty rights in the region.

The Resource Curse | Africa

Africa is rich in natural resources. Resource extraction began in the 19th century and continues today. In addition to environmental degradation and deforestation the people of Africa face human rights abuses, and extreme poverty that results in high rates of child labor.
